Overview of subjective well-being in educators at SMK X Sumba

Abstract

Education is a fundamental right for all citizens, as outlined in the 1945 constitution. However, the equitable distribution of educational opportunities in Indonesia remains a significant challenge, particularly in regions such as East Nusa Tenggara (NTT) Province. This study aims to elucidate the subjective psychological well-being of educators at SMK X Sumba. The study employed a descriptive quantitative approach, leveraging a nonprobability sampling method through a convenience sampling technique. The subjective well-being of educators was measured using the Scale of Positive Affect and Negative Affect (SPANE) and Satisfaction with Life Scale (SWLS). The results showed that educators’ subjective well-being was classified as good, with 73.9% in the moderate category and 26.1% in the high category. Positive affection had a high level (95.7 %), while negative affection tended to be low (82.6 %). In terms of cognition, life satisfaction shows 87% of the respondents were in the high category, which reflects that educators at SMK X Sumba have positive feelings and high life satisfaction, although there is room for improvement. This suggests that educators should develop psychological wellbeing-based programs to support teaching quality and student learning outcomes.

Zamralita Zamralita, Tarumanagara University

Dr. Zamralita, M.M., a psychologist, is a senior lecturer faculty member at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Tarumanagara, and her primary area of specialty is industrial and organizational psychology. Her academic interests are centered on the following: work engagement, psychological capital, organizational commitment, and the interplay between job demands and job resources. Her research has yielded significant findings related to employee well-being, work-life quality, career development, and professional burnout across various sectors in Indonesia. In addition to her academic role, Dr. Zamralita is actively involved in educational leadership as the Head of the Undergraduate Psychology Program at Tarumanagara University. She frequently conducts community-based activities and training programs on talent assessment, career guidance, and organizational development. Her work integrates psychological theory with applied organizational practices, contributing to the development of human capital and workplace mental health in Indonesia.

Reza Fahlevi, Tarumanagara University

Reza Fahlevi, S.K.M., S.Psi., M.M., M.Psi., Psychologist is a lecturer at the Faculty of Psychology, Universitas Tarumanagara and psychologist with expertise in clinical, health, and industrial-organizational psychology. His research covers topics such as employee well-being, impostor syndrome, self-esteem, attachment and leadership styles, work engagement, motivation, innovation, and psychological resilience. With experience across academic, clinical, and community-based settings, Reza actively contributes to the advancement of psychological science and practice in Indonesia.

Alvin Sanjaya, Tarumanagara University

Alvin Sanjaya is a psychology undergraduate student at Universitas Tarumanagara with a strong academic interest in subjective well-being. His studies explore how individual perceptions of happiness, life satisfaction, and emotional balance relate to psychological functioning in everyday life. He is particularly interested in how psychological principles can be applied to enhance personal well-being, both in academic settings and the broader context of mental health.

Aulia Rizki Amelia, Tarumanagara University

Aulia Rizki Amelia is currently an undergraduate psychology student at Universitas Tarumanagara, with a growing academic focus on subjective well-being and mental health. She is particularly interested in how aspects of emotional stability, life satisfaction, and personal meaning influence overall mental well-being.
